Accelerated start-up and improved performance of wastewater microbial fuel cells in four circuit modes: Role of anodic potential

Wastewater microbial fuel cells (MFCs) can transform the chemical energy into electricity; however, little is known on effect of circuit modes start-up and performance wastewater MFCs. Here we have investigated four start-up, membrane fouling MFCs systematically. Besides shortening period improving MFCs, applying anodic negative potential also balances pH system thus enhances COD removal. The open-circuit constant mode (OC-MFC) presents shortest 5 days, with highest voltage output 810 mV slightest fouling, which provides an effectively strategy to accelerate applied start up MFC not only affects degree but causes significant differences in anode communities. total abundance exoelectrogens closed-circuit intermittent (CI-MFC) was 54.70%, CI-MFC inferiors OC-MFC, indicating that solely determined by dominant bacteria. Overall, OC-MFC a new enhance simultaneously.
